I guess that I can legally own the ROM file for this game since I have two of the actual NES cartriages of this game. I first got this game for the Christmas of 1991 when it was still reasonably a recently released game. Then later in 2005 I bought another copy of the game from a place selling old games on the internet. This is one of my most favorite games of all time.
There are a few versions of The Rocketeer. Actually, I should clear something up. The Rocketeer began with Dave Stevens' comic book series. Then later, Walt Disney picked up the story and made a movie of it. I love the movie. I own it on VHS and I might eventually get it on DVD. My dad took me to go see the movie when it released in theaters in 1991.
That is how I got hooked on this. OK, about the game. In 1991 they released video game versions of the movie and comic book. They released it for the IBM compatible PC (DOS), they released it for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), and then they released it for the Super NES. The PC version (I own the game for PC also) is based on the comic book. It is actually like a comic book it's self.
Now the NES version, although it's graphics are not as good as the PC and SNES version, I like the NES version the best because it is the most loyal to the movie. The NES version is a game that is based on the movie. The SNES version of The Rocketeer is just a port or export of the PC game to the Super Nintendo. Nintendo had the swastikas removed from the game when it was ported to the Super Nintendo.
If you are wondering, these pictures used in this page are actually from the Nintendo (NES) version of game. I modified them to be used in a webpage by doing the transparent backgrounds so they look better when used in a page. But this shows the art style in the game. I think that their artists on the Rocketeer project were great.
So if you want to see the swastikas, play the PC version.
